Students must be at the Band Room
by 7:30 AM Friday morning
WITH their instrument, music & flip folder, uniform, and
shako and either wearing their gray Bobcat Band t-shirt and proper
attire to fit under their uniform or packing this change of clothing along with
them. They will need a sleeping bag, pillow, change(s) of clothing,
appropriate sleepwear, outerwear for cold weather, and any toiletries necessary
for the overnight trip. This should also include any eyecare and
medication needs including inhalers. They may want to pack card or board
games for down time at the Columbus Middle School gyms. (There are two
gyms; one will be used by the boys, the other by the girls.) Busses will
be loaded by and will depart at 8 AM. They should have
eaten breakfast before their arrival at school. They will need money
for their supper at the game on Friday evening and for their evening
meal on their return trip from Columbus on Saturday. (Snacks, water, lunch
at Chester, and breakfast and lunch at Columbus will be provided by the Band
Boosters.)
FRIDAY, OCTOBER 2
Chester -- Lake Area Festival of Bands -- Parade
Competition
The
parade starts at 10:00 AM. The BHS Band is scheduled to be the
last unit in the parade, probably #29.
**The Chester
Parade Competition could be canceled due to weather. If that is
the case, then busses will load ~12:15 PM on Friday (lunch at school) and depart
about 12:45 PM allowing students to attend their morning
classes.
Columbus, NE -- Pep Band at Columbus HS Homecoming Game

Should have warm clothing
and gloves/mittens, predicted low is in the upper
30's!

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 3
Columbus, NE -- Parade & Marching
Competition

The BHS band will perform
in the 9:30 AM parade at Columbus, NE. The 2009
Columbus Marching Festival lineup will include approximately 23 bands competing
in the parade and 20 competing on the
field. Brookings is currently the 21st unit in the
parade. The field competition starts at
12:30 PM (at Memorial Stadium at Pawnee Park). Admission appears to be $4
for Adults, $3 for Students & Seniors, and Free for Children under 5.
Brookings takes the field in competition at 3:30 PM in
Class 2A. (Other Class 2A bands are Elkhorn, Southwest - Lincoln, Norfolk,
Benson - Omaha, Norfolk, Burke - Omaha, North - Omaha, Kearney, Lincoln
Northeast, Millard North, Lincoln East Bellevue East, Lincoln High School, and
Columbus.) The Awards Ceremony
will be held after the 5:30 PM band finishes
performing. The band then boards the busses to start the
return trip.
Return time will be around 11:30 PM-12:15 AM.
(These travel times are approximate and dependent upon any alterations in the
competition schedule.) Students will be supervised at the school until
every student gets a ride home.
The
students continue to work diligently and should be commended on their
dedication!! GO BAND!!
"Band Uniforms 101"--
Excludes Color Guard and Pit members who have other attire
Uniform includes:
- Red uniform jacket and sequined sash
- Black bib pants
- Gray Bobcat Band t-shirt (NO section shirts, NO exceptions; must have a
t-shirt on under uniform)
- BLACK socks
- Black Dinkles (shoes) -- Consider double knotting so they do
not become undone
- Black gloves (wristbands for drummers)
- Shakos (hats) -- plumes will be given to the
students just prior to marching onto the field and collected as soon as
they march off
- Gray band t-shirt
MUST be worn under the bibs and jacket.
- Consider wearing shorts under the bibs, PANT LEGS CANNOT SHOW BELOW THE BIB PANTS
HEM.
- Long hair needs to be pulled up and back
and all jewelry and nail polish must be removed.
- Students will need their uniform garment
bag and shako box for travel and to hang and store their uniform
properly after completing their performance.
